I know that my 6th graders will be studying both The Land and Roll of Thunder during the time I teach my unit plan. There will also be an explicit focus in the geography strands of the common core curriculum. Since I am at Exploris, they have a strong focus in cross-content education and I will need to plan accordingly.

Newspaper articles describing details in Paul's life
Character/Symbol Posters - assign each student a character or symbol to follow in the novel, write down quotes and where it is mentioned in the novel. turn it into a poster that shows how the character or symbol is important to the novel
